The College of Design is presenting an all-college Outreach Slam on Friday, November 12, 2010, 10 a.m.-12 p.m., 33 McNeal Hall. Eighteen participants are being sought for the event, which will be followed by a reception. Each participant will have five minutes (strictly enforced) to present their current outreach effort. A single project or effort should be presented, and can include presentations to community groups, design work for non-profits, consulting with communities, or other efforts within a broad definition of "outreach." If you would like to participate, please indicate your interest to Paige Rohman (612-625-8261; email@example.com) by November 6, 2010. All staff, adjunct, and full-time faculty are eligible to participate. In an effort to encourage interaction and collaboration within the college, we would like to include presentations from all departments and centers. At the end of the presentations, those attending will select the best presentation; the author of that presentation will receive $1000 in professional development funds, and the presenter receiving the second best vote total will receive $500.
"Outreach" is broadly defined; in general, outreach activities are conducted away from campus and are for the benefit of some community or organization. In most cases, outreach work is connected to the teaching or scholarship of the faculty member.
