College of Design announces renovated McNeal Hall computer classrooms

Newly renovated computer classrooms in McNeal Hall are open for student and faculty use as of September 7, 2010. Computer classroom/lab hours will be:

Mon.-Thu. 8 a.m.-12 a.m.

Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sunday 12 p.m.-12 a.m.

Late last spring the college's long-term classroom management partnership with OIT ended unexpectedly. As a result, college IT staff and DHA faculty and administrative staff had to very quickly determine what was needed to assume full responsibility for these important classrooms. As part of the planning, funding was identified to make it possible for the classrooms to be given a much needed "makeover," including new carpeting in 305, 308, 310, and 316. The computer desks were re-organized based on faculty input to provide more open space for group work and critiques. New projectors and screens were installed and large, wall-mounted LCD displays were added to facilitate better student viewing. All of the PC and Mac computers were replaced with new equipment and the latest operating systems and application software versions installed. Three new flatbed scanners were installed that are capable of 32-bit color images up to 2400x4800 PPI in resolution.

A "sneak preview" open house was held Monday, August 30, 2010 and the response from faculty was very positive.
