Patell to present "Expeditions Into Extreme Affordability" at Carlson School

The Carlson School of Management has announced James M. Patell, Herbert Hoover Professor of Public and Private Management & Co-Director of the Product Realization Network at Stanford University, as their Allan D. Shocker lecture speaker. Professor Patell will present his lecture, "Expeditions Into Extreme Affordability," on March 11, 2011 at 2 pm in the 3M Auditorium at the Carlson School.

Patell will discuss lessons learned in the development of "Entrepreneurial Design for Extreme Affordability," an interdisciplinary project course at Stanford University. In the course, graduate students apply design, engineering and business skills to create comprehensive solutions for challenges faced by the world's poor. Student teams collaboratively design product prototypes, implementation plans, and user experiences for entrepreneurial ventures in developing countries.

The Allan D. Shocker Lecture is an event sponsored by New Product Design & Business Development, a joint venture between the College of Science and Engineering and the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, and collaborating companies working together to create new products.
