The University of Minnesota Press will host a launch event for The Invisible Element of Place: The Architecture of David Salmela by Dean Tom Fisher (Architecture) on April 30, 2011 at 6 pm at the American Swedish Institute (ASI) in Minneapolis.
In The Invisible Element of Place, Fisher explores both the beauty and the practicality of Minnesota architect David Salmela's award-winning designs. Gorgeous images from one of the nation's most unique architectural photographers, Peter Bastianelli-Kerze, showcase how Salmela's designs work in concert with individual wishes, environmental concerns, and artistic understanding, and his breathtaking buildings reflect the Midwest's culture, history, and, ideally, its future.
Festivities will begin with a reception in ASI's Grand Hall from 6-7 p.m., with opportunities to shop in the ASI Museum Shop, enjoy light hors d'oeuvres, and visit a cash bar. David Salmela, Tom Fisher, and Peter Bastianelli-Kerze will sign books during the reception. At 7 p.m., Fisher and Salmela will give a short talk and slideshow presentation on the book. The book release party is free and open to the public but reservations are requested by calling 612-871-4907.
