AIA Minneapolis and AIA Minnesota have launched an initiative entitled "Rebuilding it Right: Restoring texture and architectural richness to the northside" in response to the tornado that devastated north Minneapolis on May 22, 2011.
Their goal is to organize the profession and advocate for quality and appropriate design for homes and buildings in north Minneapolis impacted by the tornado. Priority items currently in progress include:
- Assessment of housing stock - focusing on repairs considered significant to homes where architectural services would be of value in maintaining architectural character and neighborhood texture.
- Rank properties according to need and assign a design team (1-4 people) to the project, based on homeowner interest.
- Develop drawings needed to maintain architectural style and integrity.
- Coordinate drawings and implementation with owners and contractors.
Assistance is also needed with the project's website and social media. Those interested in being involved should contact Raymond Dehn (BA Architecture, 1993) at email@example.com or call 612-338-6763.
