In an effort to reconnect to his hometown of Shakhtinsk, Kazakhstan, Kyril Negoda (Graphic Design) "set out on a two-year map-making frenzy from his home in St. Paul using a tool called Google Map Maker." The 23 year old student noted that his entire home country - considered the ninth largest in the world - had very little detail on its online map when he first checked it two years ago.
Negoda has spent part of the summer taking part in workshops with peer cartographers, exploring mapping in disaster zones. He has received international attention for his Kazakhstan project. Read more about his work at the links below.
