Tawana Terrell, a second-year interior design major, has been named the first recipient of the Holly Christina Stahl Memorial Scholarship. Tawana and Holly's parents, Kari and John Stahl, had the opportunity to meet and have lunch recently on the St. Paul campus.
On December 21, 2010, first-year interior design student Holly Stahl tragically passed away in a car accident outside of Madison, WI, as she was traveling back home for the holidays. Holly's family set up the Holly Christina Stahl Foundation in her honor, and this scholarship is one of many initiatives they have undertaken as a tribute to Holly's "Love Life" attitude.
Tawana is a non-traditional student, having two children of her own; one, a senior in high school, while the other is in his third year here at the U. Tawana had planned to start back at school several years ago, but had to pull out to help her son as he recovered from a four-year battle with cancer.
During their lunch, Tawana expressed her graditude and was able to share her own story about Holly from their time in studio together. The Stahl's were impressed with Tawana's determination and ability to overcome numerous obstacles to achieve her goals.
"I feel so very blessed and honored to have been selected," said Tawana.
