Graphic Design Student Amber Billings Wins Orbit Gum Contest

Orbit_0001_2 (1).jpgThis past spring, college students from various creative disciplines across the nation's most competitive design, art and communications programs were called upon to create an original pack design for Orbit gum's latest gum flavor, Melon Remix, as part of the Orbit Spotlight Series Design Contest.

After receiving hundreds of entries, second-year graphic design student Amber Billings was announced this week as one of eight winners for the national design competition.

"As soon as I found out my design was chosen as one of the eight winning packs, I ran around my house to find my dad," said Billings. "I'm going to use the prize money to help support myself throughout my time at college."

Billings pack design was inspired by what she learned from her recent color class where she used a variety of geometric shapes, with special emphasis on the square modules.

Billings received a $5,000 cash prize and will get to see her design and personal signature featured on-pack when the Melon Remix packs hit store shelves. All eight limited edition pack designs will be available starting this December at various retailers, including Wal-Mart, and will remain on-shelf through the end of February, 2012.
