Work from MFA Graphic Design Student Jessica Barness Set for Exhibition in San Francisco

Barness.pngBeginning January 5, the 2012 College Book Art Association (CBAA) conference in San Francisco, CA, will feature work by MFA graphic design student Jessica Barness. Barness designed an artist book in Design Studio (DES 8114) last year, and her work has been accepted to the CBAA's BiblioTech blind juried exhibition.

The project by Barness, whose emphasis is in Interactive Design, celebrates the American tradition of fortune cookies. A fortune collection was curated and explored through physical condition, language translation, syntax, and word content. Designed as an unbound series of booklets, each page unfolds to display graphic content on one side and computer generated ASCII art on the reverse.

BiblioTech is a juried exhibition featuring the broad range of technology in artists' books, including handbound books, letterpress printed books and broadsides, digitally printed books, video, and works that combine old and new technologies in innovative ways.
