In Memoriam: George Dennison 'Dennie' Neilson

George Dennison 'Dennie' Neilson (B.Arch '67) died January 31, 2012. He was a resident of University City, MO and North Redington Beach, FL.

Born February 10, 1940, in St. Louis, he was the son of Dr. Arthur Wright and Janet Neilson. He attended St. Louis Country Day School and graduated from Clayton High School, Westminster College, Washington University with a BS in Architecture, and the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He was an associate at many St. Louis architectural firms throughout his career notably Claybour Associates, HOK, & William B. Ittner working on diverse projects from the Tuntex 85 Sky Tower in Taiwan to the rehab of the Fox Theatre and Plaza Frontenac. He was active in the Thistle Class Sailing Association, Clayton Community Theatre, & Old Town Clayton Association, where he was a longtime resident. He was an amateur photographer and won recognition awards. Dennie was part of The Coreys, a folk music group that played in Gaslight Square.

He is survived by his wife Karen Larsen Neilson, formerly of Taylorville; two sons: Tate Larsen Neilson and Drew Larsen Neilson, both of St. Louis; three brothers: Charles Hugh (Pat), Robert Burns (Maggie), William John; and a sister, Janet Wells. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Arthur Wright Neilson II.

A memorial will be held March 10, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at First Unitarian Church of St. Louis. Private burial at Bellefontaine Cemetery.
