Roald Gundersen (B.Arch, BED '89), founding partner and CEO of Whole Trees Architecture and Structures, received several recent honors, including an Innovative Wood Design award from WoodWorks and a third place award from Feeney Architectural Product for his Myrick Hixon EcoPark Nature Center project in LaCrosse WI. Whole Trees was also named a finalist in the 2012 Clean Energy Challenge in Chicago "Green Building" category and winner of the 2011 Clean Tech Open.

Gundersen has spent the last 16 years creating a place-based architecture from abundant, local and low energy materials. He has pioneered the use of whole trees round timbers in residential, institutional and commercial construction projects, inspired by the 140 acres of forests he stewards near La Crosse, WI.

WholeTrees currently employs Della Hansmann (M.Arch '08) and Kysa Heinitz (B.A. Arch '04) as Project Designers.
