MQ Architecture & Design, an award-winning architecture and interior design firm located in Boulder, Colorado, received an EcoHome Design Award for Phantom Canyon Ranch retreat. The LEED gold certified home is located inside the Phantom Canyon Nature Preserve in Livermore, Colorado. The annual award recognizes innovative designs of high-performance housing. The project was completed by Mark Quéripel (M Arch '80) and former partner Brian Nelson (B Arch '92).
"The careful siting of this home impressed the judges so much," wrote Jennifer Goodman on the EcoHome Magazine
website, "they said it appears to be part of the landscape. They also
were wowed by the beautifully crafted timber frame/SIPs hybrid
construction and the home's many locally sourced materials, including
beetle-kill pine flooring, reclaimed concrete tile roofing, locally
quarried stone siding, and flagstone and tile countertops."
