Vampires, Werewolves, and Costume Designers

Styling trendy vampires and werewolves isn't easy. Luckily the new Twilight movie promises a healthy dose of teen angst, a few cheesy effects, and the beyond-the-scenes talent of costume designer Michael Wilkinson.

In an interview with InStyle, Wilkinson explains how he evoked costumes ranging from the 17th century to the timeless to a look inspired by different southern Amazonian tribes.

How did he prepare for the final between scene? "I wanted them to have an imposing sense of authority," says Wilkinson. "I studied the professional clothing of the European courts over the last few centuries, and incorporated some of the silhouettes and details that seemed appropriate."

If choosing a vampire's wardrobe is your dream job too, you're not alone. Our apparel design graduates have created costumes for television, movie, and theater productions at organizations ranging from the Guthrie in Minneapolis to the Santa Fe Opera House in New Mexico.
