Here is an example of design I found that has a reference to the Constructivist and/or De Stijl style. It has potential Constructivism style in that it is linking art to a tangible idea- futurism, and this piece mixes man/mechanization into aesthetics. It has a De Stijl type style as well in that it is very square and angular.

This poster could help me with the style of the topic I chose- David Byrne's book 'Bicycle Diaries'. David discovered the folding bicycle as a perfect way to get around. This reminds me of constructivism with the idea of man and machine together.
I would also really like to use Art Nouveau as a style for the new 'Bicycle Diaries' design, because I like the flowy, hand sketched feel of it, which would match with the free spirit of David Byrne's travels on his bike.

International design

I actually found this poster on the Icograda website. This is a French Canadian poster advertising an event that was about the importance of dancing wherever you can in an urban environment. It's hard for me to point out why this is not an American poster, but one thing that stands out to me is the big clock- I know there are cities in the U.S. that have large clocks as decoration but it's not a major piece of architecture like it is in a lot of European countries.
There is something going on in almost every inch of the poster, but at the bottom left there is a nice chunk of negative space that lets your eye rest. There is a lot of black in it, but it does not seem overly done because of the very light background. This poster is definitely trying to be fun and witty because of the idea it is expressing (to promote more dancing in urban areas), and I believe it does a great job of showing this. The design has a cartoonish appeal and the little people dancing around the town get straight to the aim of the poster.

Here is the poster:

I really like this poster because it's simple, yet colorful and very clean looking. This type of poster could work in many situations because it's very neutral in terms of it's style and colors.

Fair trade and social change

One thing that comes to mind when I hear the words 'social change' is fair trade. One of the biggest political issues that I completely agree with is the issue of fair trade, and how I believe that just because there are people who do not live as well-off as the United States, they should not have to suffer receiving less money... just because the United States has the power to do that sort of thing. One of the goals of fair trade is sustainable development, which is really important in bringing the world closer together. Here is a website that has helped me get more information about social change in terms of fair trade:

I am a big fan of vintage and retro things, and they are one of the main sources for my inspiration and style. This website page shows a retro piece of graphic design.
