3 things I want to learn

1) I want to learn more about Chinese history and culture.

2) I want to know what are Chinese companies going to do to go through this global economic crisis?

3) I want to know how does Chinese colleges' teaching method different from American's?

Three Questions About China

I guess being a finance major, I have a few questions that pertain to that. I will also be looking to see if I think I could live there as a potential starting point for my career after college.

1) What is the health and maturity of the Chinese financial markets, how effectively do they operate in a communist society?
2) What type of American financial service companies do business in china, and how do they interact with their Chinese counterparts?
3) How does the Chinese culture in general treat those from outside the country? I have heard they are very gracious and nice, while at the same time I have also read that the Chinese culture is a xenophobic one.

3 questions

Some questions that I am interested in learning about during our time in China are:

1.) Which natural resources are most vital to the Chinese economy? I am interested in knowing this to gather a better understanding of how major countries are able to use their resources to create wealth.
2.) Since I am studying to be an Actuary I would like to know about what past insurance programs were available and what their future plans are in the insurance world?
3.) How has the role of women changed in Chinese business? Currently do women hold upper-level business positions?

Hello & 3 things I want to learn about

Hi everyone. My name is Kevin O'Connell. I just got done with my 3rd year at UMD double majoring in Accounting & Finance.I still have a couple years to go before i graduate.

I've never been to China so dont really know what to expect. We are only two days away and--probably like everybody else--I am getting very excited andcan't wait to depart! I want to learn many things while in China but here are just a few. First, I want to learn about Chinese business. China's economy has been growing at an incredible rate over the past decade-plus. They are going to be a force for years to come. I want to learn about China's main industries and the future of those industries. I also want to learn about how the Chinese business lifestyle differs from the United States. Second, I want to learn about the Chinese culture as a whole. I have been out of the country a couple of times but have never really gotten the feel for another culture. It will be a life changing experience to see how differently people live half-way around the world. Lastly, I want to learn about myself. I want to grow as a person during this trip. When you think about it, a month away from home is not that long. However, I have never been away from MN for more than a week. I have no idea what it's going to be like being gone for a month. When im working after college i want to be the type of person my boss knows s/he can send on a business trip and I will get the job done. This trip will give me a taste of what it's going to be like to work in completely different place.

Three Questions

I am really looking forward to going back to China for my second time. I was only there for ten days and learned so much but I cant imagine what I will experience being there for a month. First thing that I would like to learn on my trip to China is how working overseas is. I want to know how it is different from working the the US and want to know some similarities also. Second I want to learn about the culture of China. I want to learn how the kids interact with there friends and I want to learn what they do for fun. Last since I am a marketing major i want to see how they Market to customers over there and see if they take the same approaches as they do here.

Three Topics of Interest

The first thing I am interested in learning/seeing is how different companies convert their products name, slogan, or trademark into Chinese. I have learned about a few cases throughout my marketing course that companies can have disastrous results if things are not converted and translated correctly.
I am also interested in seeing how the one child law affects kids my own age. How do they feel being an only child (in most cases)? I only have one sibling but I know of people who have 4-6 kids in their family and it would just be interesting to see the differences.
Lastly I am curious to see how intense the formality in China really is. I have always learned that the Chinese are far more formal and the power distances are much more distinct. It will be interesting to see how Chinese education system differs from the US in terms of formality.

3 Questions

As a Management Information Systems major my curiosities naturally lie within technology in and outside of the workplace. My first question is: How are new technology implemented and/or used within the business setting in China as compared with the United States. My second question is: As "the times they are a-changin'," and as a high context culture, how do the majority of Chinese nationals feel about the anonymity and "shrinking of the world," so to speak, that comes along with the worlds large adaptation of the internet. Lastly, I'd like to find out more about interpersonal communication at universities in China as compared to the universities in the United States.

3 Questions

First of all, I am looking forward to getting out of this country for a whole month and experience whatever is thrown at us across seas in China. I am looking forward to seeing how banks are similar and different to ours. Secondly, I can't wait to see what factories and skyscrapers look like on the inside and what the employees at those banks or companies do during the day (ie when they get into work, when they leave, how long lunch or breaks in general, just random questions like these). Lastly, I am really looking forward to the culture in general. My cousin lived in Beijing, Shanghai, and currently in Singapore so I have heard some stories, but I am looking forward to experiencing everything for myself. I can't wait to board the plane on Sunday!

My three questions

There are many things I want to learn on this trip. The first thing I would like to learn is how does their stock market function? Is it like the United States or does it have many different rules and regulations? The second question is what other reasons are there that the Chinese like to keep their currency undervalued, other than it provides economic stability? The third and final question I have is how does the government being Communist, effect the Chinese citizens?

Three learning objectives

Photo_050909_001.jpg

Hello everyone. My name is Shane Jopke. I am in the MBA program at UMD and very excited to be going to China as an elective! Less than a week to go!

I work at US Bank in Duluth as a Branch Manager. Therefore, I am interested in learning the similarities and differences of the US and Chinese banking systems.

I am also curious to see the general business climate in China. It will be very interesting to go on the corporate visits while we are over there. China is a strong global player in the world economy and will only become stronger in the decades to come.

Lastly, I look forward to a better understanding of Chinese culture. I am pretty 'green" when it comes to world travel. I have never even been to Canada! China...what a great place to start my travels. I cannot wait to experience Chinese customs, culture, and most of all FOOD!!!!

3 Things i want to learn

The first thing I would like to learn even though its pretty general is: 1) How the Chinese culture of not just only the schools but everyday living compares to American culture. I am also a marketing major so: 2) I would like to see how China business market their products in there country and if they use strategies i have never seen? Finally, since China is inevitably becoming the next world power I would like to see how China runs there business compared to the way Americans do business? Since I will most likely be doin some type of business later in my career.

My Three Questions

There are many things I hope to learn during my visit to China. Mainly I'm interested in their current accounting system and how it has progressed over the past decade or so. 1. How is their current accounting system working out for them and how does it compare to US GAAP? 2. How do business negotiations in China function as compared to the United States? 3. Why is their economy so successful while most of the rest of the world is in a depression period? These are the main points I am interested in learning about, but I'm sure I will learn many other things while I'm in China.

3 Q's

Three of the main things I want to learn during our trip to China are: 1. What management styles do Chinese Businesses prefer and how they differ from American Businesses? 2. Do they way Chinese and American Businesses negotiate differ and if so which views to be more effective, and when the two must negotiate together which style tends to be used? 3. Are there things that American Businesses do that are viewed as disrespectful to the Chinese Culture, if so what are they and how can they be avoided?

There is a lot of thing that I want to learn from this trip; if I just can pick three of mine, I would like to see the One Child Policy. I just very interested for this topic because I also from china too, but there must some different from city to city. Second, I want to see how is the culture different from china to U.S.. Third, I might chose to learn about how does the company star to operate step by step that we are going to visit.

Three Topics of Interest

The first thing I am excited to learn about is how bargaining works while shopping. I have several friends that have been to China and one that even lived there for a year and it sounds like shopping can be quite the experience. I want to give my bargaining (and Chinese) skills a test and it sounds like shopping may be the place to do it. The second thing I am interested in learning while in China is what their transportation systems look like, and run like, compared to ours. One of my undergraduate degrees is in Transportation & Logistics, so I will be interested in learning/seeing where the major differences lie and how they affect their transportation systems. I am very excited to ride the high-speed trains!! Lastly, but I think most importantly, I want to learn Chinese business customs and manners. The USA does a lot of business with China and I want to learn customs and manners so that I will be able to take them back to the workplace and integrate them to help me become a better businesswoman. One final note, I am very excited for the food as well!!
