Day Six: Leadership lecture and lunch with the Chinese students

Today was another fun and exciting day! We started out learning about leadership in China, which I found very interesting because it relates to my major, organizational management. I enjoyed listening to the professor because he was very passionate about the subject. I have learned about leadership in previous courses, but the focus has always been on American companies. The lecture gave me a lot of insight about how leaders in China differ from leaders in America. For example, we learned that in China, the head of a company is considered a "father" to organizational members. We also learned that the "father" of the company has both power and responsibility and plays a key role in the Chinese business.
After class our group was able to go out to lunch with a few of the Chinese students. This was such a fun experience! Throughout the meal we talked a lot about how relationships are established in China and what makes them different than relationships in America. We learned that for many Chinese students, a person's mind and personality is more important than their physical appearance. I found this to be very interesting because it is so different than Americas dating culture. When choosing a mate in the United States, looks seem to play a large role. This conversation made me realize how superficial certain parts of American culture are.
