        <![CDATA[<p>National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) invite applications to the Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants program. This program is designed to encourage innovations in the digital humanities. By awarding relatively low-dollar grants during the planning stages, the goal is to identify projects that are particularly innovative and have the potential to make a positive impact on the humanities.<br />
<ul><li>research that brings new approaches or documents best practices in the study of the digital humanities;</li><li>planning and prototyping new digital tools for preserving, analyzing, and making accessible digital resources, including libraries' and museums' digital assets;</li><li>scholarship that examines the philosophical implications and impact of the use of emerging technologies;</li><li>innovative uses of technology for public programming and education utilizing both traditional and/or new media; and</li><li>new digital modes of publication facilitating the dissemination of humanities scholarship in advanced academic as well as informal or formal educational settings at all academic levels.</li></ul></p>]]>

<h2>Program goals: </h2><br />
<ol><br />
<li>to bring together humanities scholars and digital<br />
technology specialists from different disciplines to share ideas and<br />
methods that advance humanities research, education, preservation,<br />
access, or public programming through the use of digital technologies;<br />
<li>to allow these participants to reflect on, interpret, and analyze new<br />
digital media, multimedia, and text-based computing technologies and<br />
integrate these into humanities research;  <br />
<li>to prepare current and<br />
future generations of humanities scholars to design, develop, and use<br />
cyber-based tools and environments; and <br />
<li>to devise new and creative<br />
uses for technology that offer valuable models that can be applied<br />
specifically to the humanities. <br />

    <summary>Research topics may cover a wide range of policy- or practice-related issues that include but are not limited to: science and mathematics education; the supply (pipeline) of students taking mathematics and science courses; teachers and teaching, including supply, quality, and demand; policies and practices related to student achievement and assessment; policies and practices that influence student and parental attitudes; contextual factors (individual, curricular, and school related) in education; educational participation and persistence (kindergarten through career entry); at-risk students; early childhood education; US education in an international context; school finance; the quality of educational institutions; and methodological studies. Researchers must include the analysis of data from at least one NSF or NCES data set in the project. Additional large-scale nationally representative data sets may be used in conjunction with the obligatory NSF or NCES data set. If international data sets are used, the study must include U.S. education.</summary>

        <![CDATA[<p>Call for proposals for new research grants was announced by the AERA Grants Program. Support from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) of the Institute of Education Sciences, the AERA Grants aim to stimulate research on U.S. Education Policy and practice using datasets from from the two funding agencies.</p>

        <![CDATA[<p>Cyber-Enabled Discovery and Innovation (CDI) is NSF’s bold five-year initiative to create revolutionary science and engineering research outcomes made possible by innovations and advances in computational thinking.  Computational thinking is defined comprehensively to encompass computational concepts, methods, models, algorithms, and tools.   Applied in challenging science and engineering research and education contexts, computational thinking promises a profound impact on the Nation’s ability to generate and apply new knowledge.  Collectively, CDI research outcomes are expected to produce paradigm shifts in our understanding of a wide range of science and engineering phenomena and socio-technical innovations that create new wealth and enhance the national quality of life. <br />

Full Proposal Window:  March 28, 2008 - April 29, 2008<br />
Letter of Intent Window:  August 30, 2008 - September 30, 2008<br />
Preliminary Proposal Window:  October 4, 2008 - November 4, 2008<br />

CDI seeks ambitious, transformative, multidisciplinary research proposals within or across the following three thematic areas:  <br />

    <li>From Data to Knowledge: enhancing human cognition and generating new knowledge from a wealth of heterogeneous digital data;</li> <li>Understanding Complexity in Natural, Built, and Social Systems: deriving fundamental insights on systems comprising multiple interacting elements;  and</li> <li>Building Virtual Organizations: enhancing discovery and innovation by bringing people and resources together across institutional, geographical and cultural boundaries. </li><br />

        <![CDATA[<p>The National Endowment for the Humanities invites proposals for workshops that offer academically rigorous professional development programs for K-12 educators seeking to use digital resources to strengthen the teaching of the humanities. Workshops must have a cohesive course of study, address well-defined topics, and foster deeper and more informed engagement with the content-rich resources of the Internet, particularly the materials and lesson plans available through NEH's EDSITEment at http://edsitement.neh.gov/</p>
