Rapper T.I. Arrested on Weapons Charges
Rapper T.I. was arrested on federal gun charges hours before he was about to preform on the BET Hip Hop Awards Saturday.
According to CNN.com, the rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris, 27, was arrested at 2:30 p.m.EDT in Atlanta. The arrest comes after a sting operation where his bodyguard-turned-informant brought Harris three machine guns and two silencers, according to a Justice Department statement. Authorities also said that Harris provided the bodyguard with $12,000 to buy weapons that Harris could not own because he is a convicted felon. Harris was convicted on felony drug charges in 1998.
Reuters reports that the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives began the undercover investigation on October 2 when ATF agents leaned an individual was looking to buy machine guns without registering them, according to the Justice Department. The individual was Harris' bodyguard who was arrested Wednesday. Harris' College Park, Georgia home and the vehicle he was driving were searched as well. The ATF said they found three other firearms in Harris' car and six firearms in his bedroom closet.
