11-year-old St. Paul Girl Hit and Dragged By Van

Sunday, Jan. 28, at 6 p.m. an 11-year-old was hit by a van and dragged for nearly a half-mile. The Star Tribune reported yesterday that a St. Paul man is being held in the Dakota County Jail and is expected to be charged in the crime. She is a sixth grader at Heritage Middle School in West St. Paul.

The Pioneer Press, which printed a more detailed report of the crime in today's paper, said that Reyes owes her life to an alert driver who followed the suspect's van and forced him to pull over in a parking lot. Although the Star Tribune has yet to publish the suspect's name, the Pioneer Press identified him as Mauricio Sanchez, 33, of St. Paul. They said that he could face charges face charges of criminal vehicular operation resulting in great bodily harm, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license.
