My first fight

Yesterday was my second day at East Side. I was excited to go back and had a great welcome when the kids I had worked with last time were happy to see me. I worked with a bucnh of kids on math problems and felt greatly untrained in the area of teaching...it's so hard to imagine not understanding addition since I have for so long and I just really don't feel like I am pacient enough to work on it with them. It went okay though. Finally, we got to the games. Right in the middle of an intense round os Connect Four, a fight broke out between two boys. I was really at a loss...I have seen plenty of fights in school, but this was the first time that I felt it was my responsibility to do something. My reaction time was very slow and lucky for me, the superviser came in and took care of things. I felt a little stupid that I didn't know what to do, but I really had never been in that position before. It took awhile for the kids to get over that, but sure engouh, they were ready to play kickball in about ten minutes. I can't beleive how short their attention spans are! And they're always yelling! Kickball was fun untill a girl I worked with before got knocked in the head and hit the ground. Luckily she was okay...it looked worse than it was. When the two hours finally ended..I was releived and straight up beat. I don't know if it was the kids, or school, or both, but I was ready to collapse. I can't beleive how much energy all the kids have...I am wondering if they ever sleep.

Jenna,

Your work sounds interesting. Have you ever considered doing international teaching as a community service? Your Blog gives no hint as to your age. Are you a teacher? A student?
