The Art of Japan 日本の美
N-dimensional Japan Workshop Series II
This workshop will focus on the traditional Japanese culture and the modern Japanese pop culture. Three NDJ members, Masao Shimada, Takeshi Arashiro and Taisaku Nogi, will talk about their research projects about traditional Japanese culture; Japanese short poetry, Japanese tea ceremony and Japanese food culture, respectively. Also, we will welcome a special invited speaker, Dr. Frenchy Lunning, from Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), and she is going to talk about traditional Japanese painting and the modern Japanese culture, Manga and anime. This will be an interesting workshop, because these four speakers will give you an idea of how traditional cultures have been shaped over last 1000 years, and how these cultures coexist with modern pop culture in Japan.
Date: November 19, 2010
