About the Program
This program is designed as a response to the difficulties that many institution are facing in maintaining current levels of infrastructure in the wake of the severe budgetary cuts caused by the global financial crisis and cuts in funding for Japanese studies in the US. Support will be provided to institutions that execute proposals designed to maintain and advance the infrastructural scale of Japanese Studies at their institution.
Proposal should address the needs of the institution's ability
to maintain and advance the scale of infrastructural support for Japanese
studies. Priority will be given to: (i) institutions that face difficulties
maintaining current levels of Japanese studies in the wake of the severe
budgetary cuts; (ii) small institutions and institutions without an established
program of Japanese studies; (iii) institutions that develop projects that initiate
or sustain institutional partnerships, including those in Japan.
The grant and project activities must begin prior to March
31, 2013. Preparatory activities are regarded as sufficient; project activity,
including preparatory steps taken before March 31, 2013 can mark the beginning
of the grant period.
The maximum amount of funding is $25,000. Grant support in
this round will be awarded for project activities taking place within one year
