This is the first scholarly book to appear in English in over a decade about the prominent Japanese folklorist Yanagita Kunio (1875-1962). It contains essays by a younger generation of Japan specialists, and is especially focused on Yanagita's mature theories and writings during the 1930s and 1940s.
