Variety Trial and Research Plot Tours:
Your County Soybean Growers Associations are working together to coordinate their plot tours this summer. All soybean growers, member and non-member are encouraged to attend the tours most convenient for them. All of the County Soybean Variety Trials will include Variety updates and reviews by Dr. Jim Orf, U of M Soybean Breeder and seed company representatives.
In addition many of these County Association Plot Tours will include research on Micronutrients and Fun¬gicides trials being conducted at these sites by U of M Researchers and Extension Educators. Check the schedule below for the specific research being conducted at each county site. Soybean Researchers will be at each tour to talk about specific topics of importance to soybean growers. Some of the counties will be hosting meals with these events and all will have snacks and refreshments.
State Soybean Variety Trial Tours:
Dr. Jim Orf, U of M Soybean breeder has a long history of variety development and testing in Northern Minnesota. Dr. Orf and the University of Minnesota conducts Variety trials of public and private varieties for the various maturity zones in the State. The trials include side by side comparisons of transgenic, conventional and food grade varieties entered by devel¬opers and marketers of soybeans in Minnesota. Data from the trials include maturity, yield, protein content, oil content, chlorosis reaction, Phytophthora reaction and results from soybean cyst nematode (SCN) tests as well as characteristics of food grade varieties. Results will be available on line as printed tables.
