September 1, 2011

9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.Fergus Falls, Minnesota

Directions to the field day from Fergus Falls MN are to take Hwy 210 West to French, MN, then South on138th Ave (turns into 220th St), South on 135th Ave for 1 mile, and West on 210th St for 1 mile. The site will be hosted by farmers, Don and Dan Bradow.

This is a unique opportunity to better understand the causes and the effects of compaction in your fields. Wheel traffic is a major contributor to soil compaction. Four soil pits will demonstrate different management techniques to help you Take Control of soil compaction.

"We have a great line-up of soil, equipment and crop experts who will discuss how compaction is formed, its effect on plant growth, and how we might minimize compaction through equipment choices," explains Jodi DeJong-Hughes, UMN Extension Educator for Crops.

There will be demonstrations highlighting tire versus track research, and tire and equipment maintenance that will help you manage and reduce compaction. Exhibitors will be on site to aid in choosing tire configurations and necessary maintenance, discuss machinery options that minimize compaction depth, and provide information regarding our Minnesota corn, wheat, and soybeans varieties best suited for regional soils.

There is no charge to attend but viewing space around the field demonstration pits may be limited. Pre-registration is recommended so the field layout can be adjusted to accommodate participants as best possible. To pre-register, call 888-241-3261 or email
