I am posting three items based on information from the Jan. 17 2013 Hay Auction at Sauk Centre MN.

Jan 17 2013 SC Hay Auction.pdf ... A list of all tested hay lots and bedding materials sold... grouped by kind of hay, bale type, RFV in 25 point groups for alfalfa and by protein for grass.. cost per pound of dry matter and cost per RFV point are calculated.

History of Selected Lots 2012 2013.pdf ... Average and range of RFV values and prices for Medium Square Alfalfa in 25 RFV groups from 101-200 RFV. This include average for each of the last 4 years and for each auction so far this year. Medium Square Straw is also listed.

Winter Forage Workshops
The Central MN Forage Workshop will be held on Wednesday Feb 6 at the River Station (old Richmond Coliseum) in Richmond in Stearns County. A similar workshop will be held in Floodwood in NE MN on Feb. 5 and in Rochester on Feb. 7. The featured speaker is Bruce Anderson, University of Forage Specialist. Topics will include Foliar fungicides for alfalfa, Benefits of alfalfa in crop rotations & soil health, Nitrogen credits from alfalfa for 1st and 2nd year corn, Roundup ready alfalfa considerations, Crop insurance highlights for pasture and hay crops.

This isa cooperative effort of Midwest Forage Association, Local forage councils, U of M Extension, and cooperating agribusinesses. Registration opens at 9:30 and the workshop program starts approximately at 10 a.m. at each location.

The 2012 Private Pesticide Applicator "permit renewal" workshops continue through February. Check for more information at www.pat.umn.edu. Some central MN sites include Buffalo Feb 7, Willmar Feb 8, Foley Feb 12, Sauk Centre Feb 15, Cold Spring Feb 20, Hutchinson Feb 21, Cambridge Feb 22, Montevideo Feb 27.

The Minnesota Milk Producers are holding 2 Dairy Management Workshops: Feb 5 at St. Joseph and Feb 6 at Rochester. For more information go the MMPA website http://mnmilk.org  Topics will relate to your farm.

MN DHIA District Meetings are being held. The NE District Mtg in Foley, on Feb 7, features Brant Groen's "Udder Dissection Clinic. This is a practical discussion about udder health and managing SCC levels. Check http://www.mndhia.org

The U of M Extension Farm Transfer and Estate Planning Workshop will be held on Wed Feb 13 at St. Augusta on the edge of St. Cloud. Starts at 9:00 a.m. Adjourns about 3:45. This is a practical discussion on a wide range of topics with handouts people can use for their own planning. This is taught by Regional Extension Educator specialized in Ag Business Management. Many who have attended this in the past have said it is the most comprehensive discussion they have heard. Registration is only $15.
