Be on the watch for these insects in May
Insects in and around homes
• Ants
° cornfield, pavement, pharaoh, yellow, thief, odorous house, false honey, field, acrobat
° swarmers: carpenter, pavement, yellow, false honey ant
• Stored product insects
° flour beetles, sawtoothed grain beetles, cigarette beetles, drugstore beetles etc.
• Cockroaches
° German, brownbanded, American, Oriental
° woods (may be found indoors or outside in wooded areas)
• Wasps
• Spiders
• Sowbugs
• Multicolored Asian lady beetles
Insects in gardens and yards
(Note: Because of the early spring (despite the cold April), expect insect pests 2 - 4 weeks earlier than normal. E.g. forest tent caterpillars normally hatch from early to mid May and they stared hatching in some places in late April)

• Asparagus beetles (common and spotted asparagus beetles)
• Cutworms
• Root maggots (onion and cabbage)

• Emerald ash borers (currently only confirmed in Hennepin, Ramsey, Houston and Winona counties)
