No. Just taking HORT 1003, the Master Gardener core course, does not make a person a Master Gardener. The Master Gardener program is a volunteer program, and requires that a person apply to and be admitted through an interview process to their local program. ProHort students can absolutely apply after taking the class, and - if accepted - do not need to take the class again providing their admittance to their local program is within two years of taking HORT 1003. If you are taking HORT 1003 now and would like to be considered for the Master Gardener program in your area, please contact your local Extension office or the State Master Gardener office.

If you are completing the Master Gardener Course as a ProHort student "you are taking the class for your own knowledge or as a professional for CEUs," will a certificate of completion be awarded?
Can I include on my resume that I completed the Master Gardener course at the U of MN?
We haven't awarded certificates in recent years. However, I'll take it under consideration as I can see how it might be valuable. You can include that you have completed HORT 1003 on your resume under Continuing Education.
