Welcome to Karl Hakanson as Hennepin County educator and Karen Anderson as Rice/Steele Counties educator.
Karl returns to Minnesota after many years working in Wisconsin. He is a former employee of the University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension, UW-Madison College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; River Country and Golden Sands RC&Ds; and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. Karl's career has involved agriculture and the environment and he has worked successfully with farms (large and small), nonprofit organizations, and public agencies. He has worked with those who have a strong affinity for the environment and those whose primary motivation was to maximize profit. Karl has a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from UW-River Falls and a master of science in land resources from the Gaylord Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, UW-Madison.
Karen is a 2011 graduate of the University of Minnesota College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences. Karen has a bachelor of science degree in animal science with an emphasis in dairy production. She has most recently been operating her own dairy herd at her home farm in Lester Prairie. Karen has worked on and off the farm for other dairy farms and breeding service companies. She also formerly worked as an intern in our Extension Center with Nathan Winter in McLeod and Meeker Counties.
