Lib/ITSS meeting notes
At the last meeting of the Lib/ITSS group a number of issues of interest to everyone in the library were discussed. Bill asked that I post my notes so that everyone is up to date.
* Update on Information Commons
The Info Commons team of Liz, Kyle, Paul, Rory, Sunshine, Jason Davis, Mary Olson-Reed, and Gordee Bennett will continue to work on the project. The library and composition are discussing a writing lab in L142 for one year. We will need to reconfigure tables and guest computers outside the door to L142 to give easier access. The ITSS lab consultant will be located at the circulation desk near the bend leading to the hallway where the labs are in order to be more visible.
* The new projector for L115 has been installed
* The campus web server will be upgraded to PHP5 on August 5th. The library uses PHP4 to produce our databases pages and our libdata pages. Report any problems with these services to the computer team so we can investigate them.
* By the end of July Bill Marko will complete the switchover of library switches from 10 to 100 MB - this will allow us to rebuild the library public machines in a fraction of the time it now takes so we can consider more frequent rebuilds of the images, rather than just once or twice a year.
* The equipment in L118 will be moved to the third floor MAC area and 25 MACs from the SBE lab will go into L118. After eight years the last of the library SunRays will be removed. ITSS has basic access PCs they will be adding to the library to replace them. The replacement will not be 1 for 1 but will be based on availability of machines and SunRay usage levels.
* There will be no library student at the third floor help desk this summer. The ITSS student will be trained to answer basic library questions.
* The library is interested in cooperating with the Twin Cities campus on an Institutional Repository. Initial projects might be master's theses and Glensheen papers.
