MLA Institute for Leadership Excellence

"I am happy to announce that not only as the application deadline for the MLA Institute for Leadership Excellence been extended to February 13, but the price for the retreat has been slashed! Due to grants from the MN Library Foundation & the State Library, we are able to cut the cost for participants from $300 to $150!! This includes not only the institute's programming, but also room and board from April 28 -- May 1, 2009! More information and applications can be found on the MILE subunit webpage: http://mnlibraryassociation.org/committees-subunits/mile/.

We hope this helps libraries and librarians around the state to be able to partake in this exciting and energizing retreat! "

Any library, whether it is school, public, academic, or special, is many things to the community it serves. A library offers the information patrons need to improve their quality of life. A library provides open access to technology and the world of online information, as well as guidance on navigating that world. A library also gives their community something that is less tangible, yet just as essential to improving its patrons’ lives: nourishment not just for the mind, but the spirit as well.

How do libraries do that? Through the programming opportunities they create.

In this program we will look at some of the innovative programming libraries today are creating to meet the evolving needs of their patrons. We will also provide a basic primer for anyone who has always wanted to plan a program, but didn’t know where or how to begin.
