Mr. Environment: The Willard Munger Story

An exciting new political biography!
Mr. Environment: The Willard Munger Story

Presentation on Wednesday, April 22 at 2:00pm in the UMD Library Rotunda.

District Court Judge and author Mark Munger will discuss his most recent publication about Minnesota’s longest-serving member of the House of Representatives. He chronicles Representative Willard Munger’s determined struggle to preserve Minnesota’s natural environment as he narrates his story, from birth in a homesteader’s log cabin in Otter Tail County in 1911 to legendary journey from Minnesota to Washington DC to lobby FDR during the Great Depression.

Staff Training Opportunity

All staff are encouraged to attend the Webinar Conflict in a Peaceful Library on Wednesday, October 15. As this is NOT an All-Staff meeting as earlier announced attendance is not mandatory.

October 15, 2008
1:00pm - 3:00pm
L410

Here is a description of the program:

Conflict happens! Many of us try to avoid it, some fight with it, some seem to enjoy it and still others seem to handle it with tact and skill. What's the secret to effectively handling situations of conflict? How can we de-emotionalize ourselves to the situations so that we don't get caught up in them?

Join Andrew Sanderbeck as he explores our dealings with others in the library by defining the conflict situation and using one of three approaches to successfully handle or resolve it. If you don't like to be yelled at by other people, you'll really enjoy this fun and interactive webinar.

This Webinar is provided free to members of WebJunction MN.

Toddlers to visit Library on Tuesdays

Toddlers from the UMD Children's Place will be visiting the UMD Library on Tuesdays between 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. this semester. They will be accompanied by their classroom teachers. The teachers will select books from the Children's Literature Collection to read out-loud to the children. I've recommended the teachers use the area in the Library Annex that looks out on their playground (next to where the Play Collection was shelved).

It is my understanding that the children will not be checking out materials. Only the teachers will check out materials. I discouraged them from sending the materials home with the children and was assured that the materials will be used in the Library and the Children's Place.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Liz.
