Today, Thursday, February 23rd, Maryland voted in favor of legalizing same-sex marriages. It is now one of 7 states including the District of Columbia to allow same-sex marriages. Officials repor that the bill will be likely be challenged by the courts, hopefully it survives as other states such as California have had their laws revoked. On the other hand, states such as Minnesota and North Carolina will be introducing bills to ban same-sex marriages. I really thought that Minnesota was a gay-friendly state and it saddens me to hear that we will be pushing for a statewide ban. 20 years ago when same-sex marriages were first introduced, nearly 75% percent of the population was opposed, now in recent polls, the opposition is nearly equal with 53% actually in favor of gay marriages and 47% against. This is a huge change of heart, and some times only time can sway the hearts of the population.
