This year's Midwest PeaceJam is taking place at the University of Minnesota for the first time! The Nobel Laureate Rigoberta MenchĂș Tum of Guatemala will be on the U of M campus the weekend of April 22nd to participate in the event. The University YMCA, in partnership with the University, is currently seeking University students to serve as volunteers and mentors for the program. Mentors will receive training to enable them to coach and facilitate conversations among youth from all over the Midwest.
Mentor positions only require 15 hours of your time, and in addition to helping a great cause, they are great resume builders. Mentors will talk with small groups of middle and high school students at the conference about being a peacemaker, doing service work, and being a leader in their community. They also meet directly with the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
