The Pediatrics Dept of the Medical School is looking for a student Lab Technician for 20 hours/week. Work-Study funds are necessary.
Required Qualifications
Must be available throughout semester breaks and summer
HS grad/equivalent
Must be a registered (at least 6 credits) University of Minnesota student
Department prefers applicant with at least one year of school left
Must be able to work without direct supervision
Must be willing to work with mice
Must provide 2 references and schedule of availability.
Please attach current schedule and other obligations for the fall semester (volunteering, directed study, athletics, etc.)
Laboratory and/or rodent experience desirable
Duties/Responsibilities Student must be reliable, detail-oriented and be willing to work extensively with mice; will learn correct mouse handling techniques for work in specific pathogen-free mouse colony.
80%: Ear mark mice and prepare cage cards for experiments; weigh mice, record and tabulate weights record deaths, colony maintenance (i.e. set-up mating, wean mice, etc.)
20%: General lab maintenance to include cleaning, stocking supplies preparing buffers, etc.
