Leadership and Social Change in Ireland
Study Abroad in Belfast, Ireland Spring semester 2011
Meets Leadership Minor elective but it is not necessary to be enrolled in the Leadership Minor.
Learn how ordinary individuals and communities can inspire, mobilize, and engage with others to make a difference and to tackle what might appear to be an impossible public problem. The city of Belfast, Northern Ireland will provide a rich context for students to learn about the role that ordinary citizens, informal leaders, and public officials played in facilitating a reconciliation of a long-standing conflict. June Nobbe (firstname.lastname@example.org) leads this seminar and is a leadership minor instructor. Students will visit local community organizations in interface areas, examine the murals in Belfast, and visit Derry (site of Bloody Sunday). Experience the coastal beauty of Northern Ireland on excursions to Ballycastle, Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, and Dunlance Castle.
The final week will be spent in Dublin to examine a different context in the Republic of Ireland. For more information on the program and how to apply visit the program site here.
