What a crazy week; am I right University of Minnesota students? So crazy that I haven't been able to share with all of you the latest and greatest of engagement opportunities (which should be coming to you later today) but before delving into the semester, I would like all of you to close your eyes and reflect upon this past week.
Maybe some of you are wrapping up Welcome Week as a freshman or Welcome Week leader; or relaxing before the fall semester begins with your last year of school. Wherever you are in your college journey, the beginning of the semester is a whirl-wind of excitement and anxiety in which you can lose those moments that impacted your life before classes begin. What made your summer especially different this time around? Was it your first summer after your first year of school? Did you stay in the Twin Cities to work? Take a trip that was life changing or eye-opening? Find a special someone to share your days with?...whatever it may be it is something that you can reflect upon and find within yourself for the rest of your life.
Those of you that were a part of Welcome Week this year, such as myself, are probably tired and giddy from the late nights of fun activities and helping transition the first-year students into their new label in life, college student. I wanted to note that this year, particularly for me, how stunned I was at the commitment of the entire campus and the Welcome Week crew. The leaders this year were committed and up-beat and the University of Minnesota staff/faculty more than dedicated to bringing smiles and knowledge to the whole campus.
If you are looking to become a part of this wonderful week of engagement and student development, visit the Orientation & First-Year Programs website.
If you were a part of the Strengths session and wanted to know more about the Engage! Search tool or the Do What Matters Facebook Page or Blog, your in the right place. Click on any of the above links or email me atengage.umn.edu to ask questions or to share any student engagement opportunity.
Thanks so much for your patience as the semester begins. Check back later to see opportunities I have found for this week!
