Opportunities Supporting Seniors

Manicurist
Manicurists are needed to remove and reapply nail polish for some senior residents at Presbyterian Homes & Services, Lake Minnetonka Shores. Minimum age for volunteers is 14. Training and orientation is provided.

Program Promoter
The West 7th Community Center in St Paul provides quality programming to senior citizens in the West 7th neighborhood. Help us get the word out about our programs by sending out press releases to local newspapers and promoting on the web.

Occupational Therapy Assistant
Volunteer at Kaposia, Inc. and assist retired adults with improving their physical capabilities by assisting them with individualized therapies. Staff will be present to provide instruction and guidance. Two locations to choose from- Golden Valley or Roseville.

Serve Meals to Seniors
Volunteers to serve meals for seniors at Ebenezer Park Apartments in Minneapolis. Duties include setting tables, preparing the meal with the chef, serving the meal, and cleaning up. Shifts are Mondays through Fridays 3:45pm-5:15pm and Sundays 11:45am-1:15pm. Volunteers once or twice a week. A great opportunity for small groups of 6 people or less!

Volunteer Opportunities Working with Dogs

Online Functions
Top Dog Foundation of New Germany needs to maintain information on their website and social networks (e.g., Facebook). They want the public to visit online to learn about dog rescue groups and about those dogs rescued (senior dogs) to find new homes.

Service Dog Foster Home
Volunteer Foster Homes are needed to help raise and train a service dog for people with physical disabilities. Volunteers will agree to take a Golden Retriever or Labrador Retriever puppy at 7-9 weeks old into their home and raise and train it with the support of Helping Paws of Minnesota staff.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Gift Shop
Assist customers, operate cash register, perform inventory, sales transactions at the Landmark Center store in St Paul. 10% discount given at store and mileage reimbursement available. 11-3 Monday - Friday: 2 shifts per month.

Refugee Mentor
Work with Lutheran Social Service, Refugee Programs (LSS) of Minneapolis to help newly arrived refugees from places like Burma, Bhutan or Somalia to become better acquainted with their new home in Minnesota. Meet with your match three times per month for their first three months. Male mentors are in high demand right.

Outreach Liaison
Coordinate the distribution of Rein in Sarcoma informational materials with sarcoma medical clinics and other support establishments. Rein in Sarcoma is based in St Paul.

Homework Connection Tutor
Volunteers help students in grades 3-5 with basic skills at Volunteer Connection homework centers in several Bloomington locations. Great for people who want to volunteer in the mid afternoons.
