HandsOn Twin Cities Volunteer Expo Silent Auction Committee: In support of this work and, in conjunction with the 7th Annual HandsOn Twin Cities Volunteer Expo to be held on Feb. 18, 2012, we will conduct an online silent auction. Volunteers are needed to serve on the Silent Auction committee. Committee members will be asked to assist in making contacts to acquire silent auction items. Additionally, members may assist staff in writing descriptions for items, data entry, sending thank you notes, etc.
Tutoring Volunteer Opportunities
GED Tutor: The FATHER (Fostering Actions To Help Earnings and Responsibility) Project is a program of Goodwill/Easter Seals. Goodwill/Easter Seals is looking for volunteers to work individually with program participants in Minneapolis to help them prepare to take the General Educational Development (GED) exam.
Homework Connection Tutor: Volunteers help students in grades 3-5 with basic skills at Volunteer Connection homework centers in several Bloomington locations. Great for people who want to volunteer in the mid afternoons.
Volunteer Opportunities Addressing Hunger
Holiday Season Donation Volunteer: Meals on Wheels of Minneapolis needs volunteers to process end of the year donations. 50% of their income comes from approximately 3200 donations in the last quarter of the year. They need a good volunteer to help process these donations including opening mail, updating a database, and creating thank you letters. M-F, 8am-4pm.
Volunteer Meal Delivery: Volunteer with Presbyterian Homes & Services to deliver either a hot daily meal or a weekly supply of frozen meals to seniors and persons with disabilities throughout Ramsey and Washington County. Prefer a once/week commitment, but would love any help.
Food Rescue Volunteer: Second Harvest Heartland of Minneapolis needs your help repackaging fresh tortillas and other bulk foods before they go to waste so that they can get to their neighbors in need! Both individuals and groups of up to 50 are invited to complete this important work. Shifts are weekly on Wednesday, Thursday and on the first two Saturdays of each month from 9 am - 12 pm.
Meal Group: Provide a Saturday or Sunday evening meal for shelter guests, staff, and volunteers at St. Stephen's Human Services in Minneapolis. Plan, purchase, prepare and serve a meal for 50-55 people. Prepare meals offsite and arrive at 7:00 for serving at 7:15 or 7:30 with cleanup afterwards. A group of 4-6 people is best, 10 is the max. Try once and then commit to 3-6 more.

Gift Shop Assistant: Assist customers, operate cash register, perform inventory, sales transactions at the Landmark Center store in St Paul. 10% discount given at store and mileage reimbursement available. 11-3 Monday - Friday: 2 shifts per month.
Lifeline Installer: Install lifeline units in homes of elderly and/or disabled individuals for Fairview Lifeline of Bloomington. This enables the user to press a button in their home or yard to call for help. Need only be slightly mechanically inclined. Flexible hours. Must have transportation, patience and enjoy socializing. Opportunity for couples or teams of two.
Evening Shelter Aide: Help provide hospitality and hope to those most in need by volunteering in the Our Saviour's Housing Emergency Shelter in Minneapolis. They open their doors to 40 homeless adults every night of the year. Assist with a variety of tasks to keep the shelter comfortable and running smoothly. Shifts are every week or every other week from 6-9 p.m..
Companion Animal Visitor: Bring your dog(s)or cat(s) to Kaposia, Inc.'s center in Roseville for visiting and companionship with senior individuals. Flexible weekday morning or early afternoon times. Visits typically last less than an hour, allowing an opportunity to make a positive impact with minimal time.
