Northwest Youth & Family Services is seeking interns and volunteers for their summer programs.

Northwest Youth & Family Services, a community-based non-profit agency, prepares youth and families for healthy lives. NYFS' mission is to prepare youth and families for healthy lives through counseling, health education, and support services.

Internships Available:

STEP Into Summer Group Leader.doc
The STEP Into Summer program is seeking a Group Leader who is able to strengthen community partnerships, empower young people and provide assistance while organizing and leading activities. The Group Leader will assist the Program Coordinator and Head Group Leader in supervising volunteering and youth on a daily basis, in addition to documenting progress of youth and communicating regularly with the program coordinator.

Special Events Intern
This position involves providing administrative assistance in the areas of event planning,
promotion and implementation. Duties include assembling and distributing marketing materials and invitations, data entry, research, conducting follow-up calls with participants and making silent auction donation requests.

Assistant Lead Tutor Intern
STEP is seeking an undergraduate or graduate student to intern as our Assistant Lead Tutor Intern. The intern will assist and impact our mission by strengthening community partnerships, empowering young people and providing assistance while organizing and running activities. The intern will assist the Program Coordinator and Lead Tutor in supervising volunteers and youth on a daily basis, in addition to documenting progress of youth and communicating regularly with the program coordinator.

Discovery Program Intern

Discovery Program interns provide effective activities that motivate, engage and stimulate youth development, organize group and individual mentoring, and provide weekly case noting and all other documentation for the program

Communications/PR Intern

The Communications/PR internship involves writing and updating selected NYFS brochures, flyers, news releases and informational articles, designing new brochures and promotional pieces that complement NYFS logo and look, and meeting with program staff.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Junior Group Leader.doc
Junior Group Leaders will assist the program coordinator and head group leaders with daily activities, while ensuring all youth remain safe.

STEP Program Mentor
STEP program mentors guide students as they discover community needs, take action through service work and learn through reflection and evaluation. Mentors assist staff as they identify leadership and youth development opportunities.

STEP Tutor

STEP tutors work with middle school students at least once a week, work with our AmeriCorps STEP program coordinator to co-lead activities or community service
projects, and assist school or agency staff with specific goals.

Discover Mentor

Discovery mentors assist the Discovery coach and staff, assume a primary role in mentor relationships with teens, and attend staff conferences and goal-setting meetings.

Employment Assistant
Employment assistants train and supervise teen employees, sort, price and stock donated merchandise, and co-lead employment seminars and help teens with job searches.
