Volunteer Opportunities Supporting Youth

Like Art? Like Kids? Be an Arts Mentor!
Free Arts Minnesota offers individual opportunities which place volunteers at one of 30 partnering organizations across the metropolitan area. Serve on a mentor team with 3 to 5 other volunteers and provide one hour per week of creative arts activities to children. Mentors must make a one year commitment. Training and on-going support provided by Free Arts Minnesota.

Childhood Development Assistant

Work with children 6 months to 5 years old for the Family Program at Resource Inc., through educational programming and activities that will prepare children for kindergarten. M, W, Th, F mornings in Minneapolis.

Warm Weather Volunteer Opportunities

Ticket Seller/Greeter
Make change, and answer questions while selling tickets for Our Fair Carousel, Inc. in St Paul. Volunteer shifts are: Weekdays 10:30am-1:30pm and 1:15-4:15pm; Weekends 10:30am-2:30pm and 2:15-6:15pm. Volunteers need to be available for 2 or more shifts each month. They especially need volunteers for afternoons and weekends.

Pontoon Driver
Presbyterian Homes & Services, Lake Minnetonka Shores, needs a volunteer to drive their residents (Seniors and daycare children) on a pontoon on Lake Minnetonka. Rides usually last 2 - 2 1/2 hrs. total volunteer time. Schedule will be once a week with a specific group of residents. Must Pass a Background Check and the DNR Certification.

Muckruckus MS Twin Cities
Come get dirty at Muckruckus MS TwinCities on August 11 in Dresser WI! The event is an obstacle course through mud at Trollhaugen Ski Resort. This is a fundraiser for multiple sclerosis research and programming for people with MS. There will be thousands of runners and over 350 volunteers are needed. Help with food service, parking, set-up and tear-down, and more.

Dakota City One Room School Teacher
Dakota City Historic Village is a living history museum of 1900-era buildings in Farmington. They are looking for adults to dress in period costume and play a Schoolteacher to elementary-aged children on a school field trip. Lead the class in 1900-era school lessons and recess for about 2 hours. Tours during the school day in spring and fall.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Exercise Leader: Get Fit! Have Fun!

The Volunteers of America of MN's RSVP program seeks volunteers aged 55 or better interested in being trained to deliver the Bone Builders exercise program. Volunteers lead one hour, twice weekly classes. Training, ongoing support, mileage reimbursement, and other benefits are available. Classes offered in various locations around the Twin Cities.


VEAP (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People) intake volunteers helps process clients requests for food and children & youth services. Direct client contact over the phone, computer experience and strong customer service experience required. Bilingual helpful but not required. Wed, Thurs, or Friday afternoons in Bloomington.

Training/Admin. Volunteer
Volunteer at CornerHouse in Minneapolis and work closely with the Training Assistant and the Volunteer Coordinator to provide: clerical support, administrative support for special projects, and support during training weeks (once a month). Must have basic computer skills and ability to work in a team. 4-5 hours a week with a 6 month commitment.


Free Arts Minnesota is looking for an energetic and passionate person who is looking for a 10-20 hour a weekly internship in Minneapolis. They need help with data entry, mailings, special events, and other assigned tasks. Internships with Free Arts are non-paid and can be designed to earn college credits.
