Volunteer and Intern with Intermedia Arts

Intermedia Arts builds understanding among people by catalyzing and inspiring artists and audiences to make changes in their lives and communities. They work to empower artists and community leaders to use arts-based approaches to solve community issues. From graffiti art to digital technology to performance art to spoken word, they work from the community up to unearth and enliven new and emerging artists and art forms while challenging and exploring the role of art in our lives.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Aerosol and Graffiti Art Day Camp Assistant:
Job Description: Assist Teaching Artists in setting up for, cleaning up, and running the Aerosol and Graffiti Art Day Camps
Qualifications: Outgoing, Interest in Graffiti Art, Work well with Middle and High School age youth
Dates: 9am - 5pm, Monday - Friday July 23 - 27 (though assisting on a few of the days instead of everyday or even partial days would still be helpful)

Animation Workshop Series Assistant:
Job Description: Assist Teaching Artists in setting up for, cleaning up, and running the Animation Workshop Series
Qualifications: Outgoing, Interest in Animation, Work well with Middle and High School age youth
Dates: Noon - 5pm, Monday - Thursday August 20 - 23 (though assisting on a few of the days instead of everyday or even partial days would still be helpful)

Uptown Art Fair Community Liaison:
Job Description: Work alongside Intermedia Arts staff, youth, and artists during the Uptown Art Fair talking to the community about the awesome work Intermedia Arts does in the community. Training provided.
Qualifications: Outgoing, Able to work well under pressure, ability to talk with many different people, Familiarity with Intermedia Arts' programs and mission a plus.
Dates: August 3, 11am - 9pm, August 4, 9am - 9pm, August 5, 9am - 6pm. Shorter shifts available

Intermedia Arts Street Team:
Job Description: Deliver fliers and marketing materials to specific locations around the Twin Cities
Qualifications: Access to transportation, outgoing, ability to speak on behalf of Intermedia Arts (training provided)
Dates: August 1 - September 15, flexible hours

Step Up Program Assistant:
Job Description: Assist Youth Programs staff in setting up for, cleaning up, and running the Step Up Summer Job program. Work directly with young people (ages 14 and 15) as they create their own films.
Qualifications: Outgoing, Interest in Film, Work well with youth, No criminal history, film making experience a plus
Dates: 10am-4:40pm, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, June 18 - August 16. Would like a commitment on at least one full day per week (could be split into separate morning (10am - 1pm) and afternoon (1:30pm-4:30pm) shifts

INTERNSHIPS

Events/Production Intern for Intermedia Art:

The intern unites cross-cultural and interdisciplinary art to promote well-being. Intermedia Arts works in diverse communities and create cross-cultural, interdisciplinary, participatory arts activities. The intern invites audiences to feed and be fed, and encourage participants to take an active role in an exchange of food, stories and recipes, reconnecting culture and art.

Internship Description: The Events/Production Intern will assist with upcoming public art events, including our monthly Open Kitchen potluck series and live cooking demonstrations at the Uptown Farmer's Markets. Duties include: • Grocery shopping
• Assistance with set-up and strike of events, including food prep, cooking, and clean up
• General assistance during events, which might include ushering and house management, taking photos, etc.
• Office work related to event production, such as filing, data entry, internet research, and scanning/copying
Requirements: Candidates must be familiar with basic cooking techniques, have strong computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.) and be self-directed with tasks. An interest in performance and food would be great! All candidates must have reliable transportation that they are willing to use for internship duties. Candidates must also be able to be on their feet for sustained periods of time.

Hours/Commitment: Internship includes a minimum of 4 events per month, with a time commitment of approximately 6 hours/event (or 24 hours/month). Monthly events include one Open Kitchen (one Wednesday per month, 4-10PM), one Farmers' Market demonstration (one Sunday per month, 9AM-4PM), and two additional Monday cooking sessions (time is flexible for these), All full event schedule will be provided in advance. We require a commitment through the end of November 2012.
