Volunteer Opportunities Supporting Youth

Children's Toys, Books, and Clothing Drive:

Volunteer to host your own drive to collect new and gently used children's toys, books and clothing for the families at Genesis II! Items can be dropped off at Genesis II Monday thru Friday from 8am - 4pm in Minneapolis.

Literacy Tutor:
Volunteer through Minnesota Reading Corps (a division of AmeriCorps) at the American Indian / World Cultures Magnet School in east St. Paul. There are open slots to read with children during the school day - mornings and afternoons. Must commit to at least 1 hour per week for a minimum of 3 months.

One Time/Short Term Volunteer Opportunities

IROI Special Events:
International Religious Organization of India needs your help for upcoming special events in Minneapolis (dinner and music related) which they do 3 or 4 times a year. Next event is in October. Volunteers help with fundraising activities and supporting their organization. For our volunteers all events are free including free food.

Carnival Volunteers:

Help at the annual Carnival fundraiser in Red Wing on September 17th from noon to 3:00! Each year the staff and residents of LSS homes for people with developmental disabilities along with volunteers throw a carnival to raise money for services for individuals with disabilities. All proceeds go to the services to support special events for the residents, such as recreational trips to Valley Fair or a summer camp.

Wine Tasting/Silent Auction Event:
Macalester-Summit Hill Living at Home Program in St Paul needs volunteers to help in many roles. Help in August and September with: Invitations, Sorting and wrapping "theme" gift baskets, Preparing Bid Sheets, A Captain or two for the evening on September 29, or one of many other roles.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

Leisure Outings Assistant:
Help Courage Center participants develop and refine community resource life skills in a socially relaxing atmosphere. Weekday evenings or Saturday afternoons in Golden Valley. Need volunteers with good problem solving abilities and is fun-loving. Four to six hours per month. Training provided.

Gift Shop Cashier:
The Ebenezer Care Center Gift Shop supports the many programs and services for seniors on the Ebenezer Minneapolis campus. Help is needed to cashier and greet customers, between 11am-3pm. Training is provided, volunteers must commit to once a week or once a month for 1 year and be at least 18 years old.

Help Military Veterans with Therapeutic Horseback Riding:
Majestic Hills Ranch Foundation provides equine assisted activities and therapies to military veterans that have been wounded in service. They need volunteers that are comfortable around horses that would like to assist these brave men and women as they work on their rehabilitation in Lakeville.

Teach GED class to your neighbors in South Minneapolis:

Help your neighbors earn their GED and achieve their dreams! Volunteer as a GED co-instructor with Minnesota Literacy Council's Learning Center -Lake Street in Minneapolis. Work with another volunteer to co-teach a GED class of up to 20 students. Classes are composed of both native English speakers and high advanced-level ESL learners.

Recreational Assistant:

Prairie Adult Care in Eden Prairie is a licensed adult day center providing adults with special needs an opportunity to engage in social recreation, and to receive health care in a community setting. Assistants help staff facilitate recreational games, music, art, gardening, field trips, conversation groups, and/or meal service. Weekly or monthly shifts.
