McCain & Obama on Same-Sex Marriage
As if it were anyone's surprise, Obama and McCain come down on different sides of the California ballot initiative to amend the state's constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman. I was surprised, however, to hear that Obama as well as McCain are against gay marriage. Although McCain seems to be against anyone who isn't a white heterosexual upperclass male, Obama supports civil unions and domestic partnerships.
Perhaps I should have known that Obama wasn't going to be the savior that everyone thinks he will be, especially after his switching and support for immunity for the telecom companies for spying on americans. I am intensely disappointed that the democratic nominee is against gay marriage, supports telecom immunity, but also that he supports Bush's faith-based initiatives. This country was based on a separation of church and state regardless of the faith of the founding fathers. Please, you stubborn closed-minded conservative fucks, read the constitution clearly. The second amendment talks about a militia, not any old hick who wants to kill for fun. The first amendment does not give you free reign to create a religion to worship a duck (or any other "false idol"). The separation of church and state is one of the most fundamental of clarities you will find in our historical documents. By instituting faith-based initiatives, we slowly but surely cross the boundary into a 1% theocracy. And guess who's behind it all? RICH MEN.
I throw angry words at whomever attempts to tell me that by supporting religions and churches that I'm really being helped as well. Sure, I can see that. Those Archdioceses like the one in Denver, Colorado, who just spit out 5.5 million dollars to settle 16 complaints against two bishops who molested these individuals as children. Yep, those folks will help me. Those religious folks who come around to my house at obscene hours of day and night asking me if I would like them to help me find jesus. Those people who take the [rewritten and mistranslated] bible literally and believe that the dinosaurs never existed along with the holocaust. Yep, they'll help me for sure.
Either way you look at it, it seems to me that Obama is a wolf in sheep's clothing when it comes to being truly liberal. Or is he just trying too hard to win the vote of evangelicals? What do you think?
