McCain: Rape is Funny

I know that I am super late on this, but I feel it would be a crime not to post about it. Feministing has the full story on John McCain's rape joke from 1986.

Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, "Where is that marvelous ape?"
I could maybe understand if this was a stupid joke made and now he regrets it, but the worst part of the whole thing is that McCain's advisers and managers are arguing that statements like this are what makes McCain authentic. There was no denial of the statement or even any attempt to acknowledge how stupid the statement was. Absolutely awful.
