Three Community Adviser positions just re-posted and open at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at UC Davis (University of California).

These three additional Community Advisers will:
Develop partnerships with 1-2 Student Affairs departments and College Dean's Offices, to ensure regular consultation experiences and effective case management of student situations. Conduct assessments, respond to student needs, and make referrals to campus resources as needed. Conduct outreach to students, faculty and staff about distressed and distressing students and other mental health issues. Provide limited personal counseling with referral to Counseling and Psychological Services as needed. Position works closely with the CAPS Team Coordinator and the 5 other community adviser.

There are 3 positions available. These positions are physically housed in one or two (50% in each) of the following units: Dean's Offices, African American and African Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Resource Center, Woman's Resources and Research Center, and Transfer, Reentry and Veteran services.

CEHD Career Services has a graduate student practicum/internship position available for the 2009-2010 academic year. The commitment is approximately 20 hours per week, but flexible.

Position description
Assist undergraduate and graduate students in identifying majors and career interests and goals using personal exploration and assessment tools through one-on-one appointments. Work with staff to develop career services that will support a diverse student population. Assist students with preparing for a job search including searching for employers, writing cover letters and resumes, and interviewing skills. Conduct classroom presentations and outreach on career and student development related topics. Participate in CEHD and U of M events and programming such as career fairs and panels, and recruiting events.

Required
Must be a graduate student currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD level program in College Student Personnel, Counseling Psychology, Higher Education or related field.

Conference Information

Dear International Students in Counseling Psychology Programs:

If you plan to attend the APA conference in Toronto in August, please mark your calendar for the orientation meeting for international students in counseling psychology programs hosted by the International Orientation and Mentoring Committee (IMOC) of the International Section of APA Division 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology).
The orientation meeting will be held at the Division 17 Hospitality Suite located at The St. Andrews Conference Center, Edinburg room, on Friday, August 7th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The address is 150 King Street West, 27th Floor, Toronto. The hospitality suite is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Convention Center.
The following topics will be covered during the orientation meeting:
1. Introduction of the IMOC
2. Introduction of the mentoring program
3. Ways to maximize your APA experiences
4. Roundtable discussions on careers in academia, careers in clinical practice, applying for internship, and working with advisors and clinical supervisors.
Prospective international students who plan to pursue a degree in counseling psychology programs are also welcome to attend the orientation meeting.
We hope to see you there!
