Family Development educators are in high demand from the media as a result of the economic crisis. Working in tandem, family resource management and family relations educators address problems the current economic reality presents to families from both perspectives. Last week, Rosemary Heins (family resource management) and Kathleen Olson (family relations) answered questions on a Pioneer Press website. They had more than 300 participants online as they chatted live, and have had hundreds more view the archived responses.
Kathleen has been reaching out in the same interdisciplinary fashion with Shirley Anderson-Porisch (family resource management) through the U of M Newswire, collaborating on a weekly column called "Connect@home" which reaches thousands of readers who are dealing with family and financial challenges. Two of their most recent columns were "Keeping your home" and "Job losses require family adjustments."
These are just a few examples--thanks to all of the Extension faculty and staff who have been working with the media to show how Extension helps Minnesotans during difficult times.
