In the News: Extension Educator Shows How to Get Big Taste in a Small Space

While the gardening season typically starts Memorial Day weekend, gardening this year became a hot topic before the snow shoes were put away. People have been excited for months about the prospect of growing their own food--the phenomenon has become known as the "recession garden" or a renaissance of the "victory garden." Extension has seen an uptick in the would-be gardener's need for help.

Horticulturalist Karl Foord is one of the many Extension educators and specialists who are rising to the occasion. Since many people simply don't have the time or the space for a backyard garden, Karl worked with University Relations to produce a video about container gardening. In this video, he shows how simple it is to turn a patio, deck or balcony into your very own vegetable haven. Using Karl's expertise, University Relations also produced an audio clip called "Fresh Taste from Your Container Garden" to use as a University of Minnesota Moment radio feature.

If you have an idea for a video or audio clip that would address another timely topic, contact Catherine Dehdashti.
