Conducting Extension Meetings on Election Day

Questions have surfaced from staff about whether they may hold meetings on Election Day, November 2. Extension follows University of Minnesota guidelines, but there are no policies currently in place prohibiting meetings on Election Day. This differs from scheduling meetings on caucus nights because of the limited time people have to attend caucus meetings. Minnesota polls are open from early in the morning into the evening, to accommodate a variety of work and meeting schedules.

We recommend that staff do not schedule Extension conferences that would inhibit citizens from getting to the polls. There is the option of absentee voting if something is scheduled and cannot be changed.

Extension staff should refer to their employment contract or policies regarding voting during work time and can contact Extension Human Resources with questions about staff voting policies.
