Scheduling Events on Precinct Caucus Night

Questions have surfaced about whether it is permissible to hold classes or events on caucus night, February 7.  Consistent with Minnesota State law, at their December 2005 meeting, the Board of Regents approved a resolution authorizing the University of Minnesota to schedule classes and events on caucus night.

Pursuant to this resolution, all classes and events scheduled for caucus night will be held as scheduled with the expectation that instructors will make reasonable accommodations for students/participants who wish to participate in party caucuses.

If a faculty or staff member scheduled to teach on Tuesday night wants to attend their party caucus, or if enough of their students/participants indicate that they will be attending caucus so that holding class becomes impractical, instructors may either cancel class or make reasonable alternative arrangements.
